Para 5 (a) (iii), which clearly states "Officer who became substantive major on or after 1.1.96 shall be granted the scale of pay of Lt Col on their stagnation for one year in the revised scale of Major. Such officer will, however, continue to draw the rank pay of Major".
Para 5(a)(iv) of the same SAI further stipulates "As a one time measure those who became Substantive Major before 1.1.96 will be granted the scale of Lt Col on completion of 21 years of commissioned service, i.e, in their 22nd year with the rank of Major.
Thus, apart from the other arguments to improve the pension of Majors, it may be worthwile to examine, a case for equating the pay scales of retired substantive Majors with 21 years of service to that of Lt Col, as the same has already been established in SAI 2/S/98. In other words, there is a strong case for placing such Majors in PB 4, for pension purposes, drawing a parellel with the provisions that followed after the implementation of the 5th Pay Commission.Sainathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06255132053158609920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6210535581221463950.post-59811369209123620702010-01-17T00:27:37.137-08:002010-01-17T00:27:37.137-08:00Dear Veterans,
Regards. It is always good to climb ...Dear Veterans,
Regards. It is always good to climb up but it is never good to make other your ladder to climb up.

"Hony Capts / Sub Majs ( JCOs ) drawing more than Majors. The low pension of Majors has reached such abysmal levels that some Hony Capts / Sub Majs are drawing more pension that Majors. We can quote examples. At Chennai, a Lt Cdr. draws Rs 14,100 as pension, while a Sub Maj ,his neighbour, is drawing Rs16,000."

This example is certainly not in good taste and at the same time there is , certainly, no justification for quoting this since the formula for pay and pension fixation for JCOs and below (PBORs)is different than the officers. At the same the the one who quoted this example did not ralise that Sub.Maj. and Hony.Capt puts up more than 32 years of service before he retires.Service rendered by a major has no comparison to this.
As such, concerned vetrerans are requested to find some other ladder to climb up.Let the Hony.Capt and below live as they if you cant think of their welfare.
Veteran Prabhjot Singh PLS Retd.Veteran Prabhjot Singh Chhatwalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14159131048982560470noreply@blogger.com
