Views of Col Kala on OROP

Dear Colonel Thapa,

Thanks for the mail. Coming to last bit of the mail about OROP, why should we not expect parity with post 2005 retirees; in fact justice demands that the older major be given pensions of existing company commanders (lt cols), older lt cols be treared as present day colonels, and pre-first cadre review cols be given the pension of brigs as they commanded regt centres and sectors.
The post 2006 retirees group elated now will also feel like us, come next pay commission, if the UPA remains in power at that time.
If the Govt remains bent upon discrimination, then there is yet another way out; the Honourable Supreme Court, who has in the past held that one cannot discriminate in grantin pension to the old retirees and the new retirees from the same post merely on the basis of a cut off date; more about it later; let us see if the Govt who has its purses wide open for a large section of the society (including exemption of surcharge to those with income of over 10 lacs, and giving IT rebate to donations to the political parties). For the time being, let us watch and wait.
Regards,
Col Kala
